We’ve blogged about Mount Maya in the past (http://heart-of-japan.com/2011/07/11/mt-maya/), but I would like to talk about Maya’s renowned night view. Click on the photos for enlarged versions.Though Mount Maya provides one of three best nightviews in all of Japan, I recommend going shortly before it becomes dark to see how the city lights come to life. Arriving early, one might enjoy the day view, then spend time at the restaurant/café at the ropeway station called “Maya View Terrace 702,” killing time until the real view.
Terrace 702 offers barbeque style meals which must be reserved in advance and regular meals too. As its name implies, Maya View Terrace 702 has an excellent nightview of the city. Nonetheless, the views that really grab the attention of most visitors are the two viewing platforms nearby. How to Get There
From Sannomiya: take the #18 Kobe City Bus (200 yen) from the “Chikatetsu-sannomiya-eki-mae” (literally meaning “in Front of the Subway Sannomiya Station”) stop, and get off at the “Maya keiburu eki” (Maya Cable Station)(25 minutes) > buy a round trip pass at the station for 1,500 yen, then take the cable car to “Rainbow Station” > take the ropeway to “Star Station” and you’re there. Total round-trip cost: 1900 yen.
